  Missy's Mona Lisa
2001 Sabino Shetland Pony Mare
Reserve National Champion & Producer of multiple National Congress Champions
HOF - Superior Dam

I call Mona my "boomerang."   I took Mona in on a trade for a colt.  The colt was going to a great driving and show home - something he was perfectly suited for - and I thought that a mare would be easy to sell.  I advertised her for sale immediately and over the next six years,  I "sold" her more times than I can count.  Sometimes it was just a verbal agreement to buy her.  Sometimes I actually had full payment and a signed contract in hand.  Twice she actually left for her new home.  Each time the buyer changed their mind and she ended up back in my pasture.

I bred her for the first time in 2004 thinking she would be easier to sell if she was in foal.   Her first foal, "Debut" was also the first foal by my herd sire, "Magic".  When Mona's first colt was born in 2005, I checked on him and on Mona to be sure they were okay, then just walked back to the house in disgust.  I was so disappointed with the colt that I thought I was going to have to geld Magic and never breed Mona again.   What I didn't know was that Debut was a proverbial "ugly duckling". By the end of his yearling year, the swan was starting to come out and I sold him to a show home.  In 2007 he went National Reserve Grand Champion under the ownership of From the Heart Farm.   Debut has since won several National Championships, earned his Hall of Fame, and has been Grand Champion Gelding at multiple Area Nationals shows.

Soon after Debut was born, someone wanted to buy Mona bred back to Magic.  I had full payment in hand and was getting her ready for transport when the buyer asked to trade for another mare I had for sale.   Another sale fell through on her later that same year.  The next Spring (2006)  Mona gave birth to "Abby"  and I have been thankful ever since that Mona did not sell that year.

Between 2007 and 2008, Mona was "sold" or had people seriously interested in her numerous times.  ( I used to joke that I could make more on retained deposits than by selling her!)   I left for Congress thinking I had to find another home for this mare! Abby and "Maggie" - Mona's third foal - represented her at Congress.  They brought home 2 National Championships, 4 Reserve National Champions, and enough futurity and incentive money to pay for our Congress expenses.  I decided that Mona was meant to stay with us for
just one more year.

In 2009, I had a deal worked out to practically give Mona away bred to Magic.  The deal fell through just before the 2009 Congress.  At the 2009 Congress, three of her four foals (Debut, Abby, and "Thumper" represented her  and brought home 6 National Championships, including a Sr Grand and a Jr Grand Championship.  Magic, the sire of all 3, won Get of Sire with Mona's foals as representatives and Mona herself won Reserve National Champion Produce of Dam.

Mona's last two foals, Thumper and "Missy", have been sold to show homes and we wish their new owners the same success.  Her first grand-foal, out of Abby was born in April 2010 and is already doing well in the show ring.  Mona's 2010 colt is beautiful, and she is bred back to a different stallion for a 2011 foal that we are very excited about.
