SHOW HOME INCENTIVE |
|
|
 |
Show home incentives are given on certain horses that bear
the "Alpha Farm" name. Incentives are normally around 10%
- 25% of the purchase price of the horse and, in very rare
cases, may be as high as 50%. Incentives are usually good
for only the first 1-3 years that you own the horse (depending
on the horses age at time of purchase) and are
not transferable if you sell the horse. They also usually
apply only to horses for which the full asking price is paid.
What incentives are NOT is money added onto the asking price
of the horse. I do not price horses, then add the
incentive on top. I put what I think is a fair market or
even below market price on a horse, then decide how much it is
worth it to me to promote the horse. Often the incentive
payouts mean that I actually take a loss on the horse.... that
is how much it means to me to see them shown.
Basically the way it works is this: you show the horse
and if you win certain awards, you receive incentive money from
Alpha Farm. What I receive is the right to advertise your
horse's winnings (so we both win there!) and maybe to use
photos if they are available.
The details of your incentive will be outlined in your sales
contract, and is set up so that you can earn money back even if
you are not able to go to the big shows like Nationals or
Congress. A typical incentive payout schedule might
look like this:
